Piazza della Signoria is a square in front of the Palazzo Vecchio – known as a symbol of the city government and it’s authority in Florence, Italy. Often called the heart of Florence, Piazza della Signoria is the focal point of the history of the Florentine Republic. Though historical, it still holds a reputation as the political center of the city even now today. Additionally, there are many statues and tourist attractions within the piazza, including access to the Uffizi Gallery, Loggia dei Lanzi, a copy of the David by Michelangelo, the bronze equestrian statue of Cosimo I by Giambologna, the Fountain of Neptune by Bartolomeo Ammannati and many more. While it has become a major tourist attraction, Piazza della Signoria serves as a central meeting place for Florentines. With its accessible location between Ponte Vecchio and Piazza del Duomo, a trip to Florence always includes atleast a walk through the beautiful, historical Piazza della Signoria.
